Absolutely STUNNING!!!! Everything about this deck makes me so happy that I bought this deck. At first I was a bit hesitant because of the price with shipping after the conversion rate to Canadian dollars, BUT IT WAS WORTH EVERY PENNY! The artwork is stunning and the feel of the cards is amazing! And even though I bought the travel size which feels great in my hands but the size does not give the artwork JUSTICE so I'm saving up for the full size version. I highly recommend this deck to anyone that is considering or even on edge about buying it. Trust me and just buy it because you won't regret it!
I’m new to Tarot. I typically used Oracle decks. This deck is just exquisite. I mean seriously beautiful. She put her blood sweat and tears into the designs. Each card is like a portrait or painting. So much to be inferred from each one. The only thing I wish were included are the Tarot equivalents. Like, for example I knew Mama Gourd was the Queen of Cups but some of them are not as obvious to those of us who are new to Tarot so I often have to look them up. But, this is not a deal breaker for me because every new deck takes getting used to. I love it and will be glad to buy others!
This deck surpassed all of my expectations in terms of card stock quality and artwork. An absolute dream to shuffle and work with. It has become a big part of my personal practice even though I got it primarily for travel - as the title intends them for. Can't recommend these enough. I loved them so much that I splurged on the larger collectable 2nd edition of the deck and have ZERO regrets. It is like owning you very own art collection.
I'm new to tarot but wanted a deck that was representative of me as I begin to learn. There aren't many melanated decks so I was thrilled to find Courtney's and splurged to order.
I got the travel size but I don't feel like I missed out. These cards come in a beautifully designed sturdy box, and the cards themselves are astronomically beautiful. There aren't enough words to describe just how beautiful they are. Pictures don't even do it justice, just buy them and experience the magic yourself!
With Grace Jones depicted as The Chief, The Emperor in “traditional” decks, and The Shaman as the High Priestess, this offering decked out in gold trim and blatant ancestral coding, symbolism, and imagery is a welcome home, a good job you found us, a kiss on the forehead, a hug from your Big Mama, and a wink from your Auntie and Uncle who be knowing. This is fine art. A calling to and fro. An open road guide. With titles to the paintings-turned-cards like, ‘Lord of the Fireflies,’ and ‘When I asked them who we were? They said we ARE the flame,’ descriptions that drive home the messages through the features of Michelle Obama and Maya Angelou for example, this deck is the Bentley of Tarot. It’s luxe but not overstated. It shatters the spirit of mediocrity. It should certainly be a NYT best-seller but The Melanated has never had to achieve such external acknowledgement nor status. It’s just nice to recognized when most decks are replicas, time and again, of the status quo. I will buy this deck again and again. I want all my people to have it if they can handle it. —angel iset dozier
